Our Moorings and Compound
Southampton Sailing Club offers mud moorings and storage ashore in our compound. If you're thinking of bringing a boat to the club, please check the limits below and get in touch to discuss before arranging a lift or buying or building a cradle.
Moorings
We accept boats up to 30 metres in length, provided they can safely settle into soft mud as the tide falls. Our moorings are mostly drying, with around 0.5 metres of water at low water on a spring tide. Your boat must be suitable for settling into the mud and refloating as the tide rises.
Please tell us your boat's make and model, overall length, draught and keel type so we can discuss whether a mooring is suitable.
Compound and lifting ashore
We offer hardstanding for suitable boats. If you plan to use the club's gantry to lift your boat ashore, two dimensions are particularly important.
| Gantry limit | What to check |
|---|---|
| Beam under 10 ft (3.048 m) | If your boat is close to this limit, contact us to discuss the lift before making arrangements. |
| Up to 1 m of lifting height | The clearance available under your hull can be less, depending on the hull shape and how it sits in the lifting strops. Check how much clearance your boat needs to be lowered onto its cradle or frame. |
The height limit is particularly important for lifting-keel and pivoting-keel boats that need to sit on a raised frame. Fixed-keel boats may also need a cradle or supports that fit within the available clearance. Please check with us before buying, building or modifying a cradle or frame.
Check your boat with us
For compound storage or a lift, please send us your boat's make and model, overall length, beam, draught, keel type and estimated lifting weight.
If you use a cradle, frame or trailer, please include its dimensions and a photo or drawing if available.
We can then discuss whether we can accommodate your boat and confirm availability.
Thanks
