Home Sailing Dinghies Introduction
Dinghies
Southampton Sailing Club (SSC) offers dinghy sailors the chance to enjoy their sport in a safe and friendly atmosphere. We want you to enjoy sailing, but we want you to enjoy it in safety.

Dinghies can be launched from the slip alongside the club from three hours before to three hours after high tide, although on some neaps the tide hardly leaves the slip at all.
The predominate winds are onshore and the waters close to the club are clear of larger traffic.

We welcome experienced sailors and novices; young or not so young. If you have never sailed before then why not attend one of our Open Days and have a go.  You can accompany an experienced club member in one of the Club dinghies and see if sailing is for you with out the expense of buying a boat.

Club dinghies are available for hire by members and bookings can be made by contacting me directly. The fees charged are small and simply help to maintain the fleet.

The Social programme at the Club includes dinghy events and dinghy cruises as well as the S.W.S.A. summer evening series dinghy races and in the autumn we will be hosting the Peter Meredith Cup race.

For further details of the S.W.S.A races please visit the S.W.S.A. website.
The Peter Meredith Cup will be run in October and is open to any Club member.

Being a Club member is more than just paying fees and getting a membership card. In the dinghy section you will find friendly advice and practical assistance should you need it. Work party duties are arranged to benefit yourself and all the other dinghy sailors, so we ask you to please attend and give a hand.

Winter storage at the club is limited so please contact me to see if we have room for your dinghy to over winter. If you have a road trailer then there is ample nearby winter storage available to club members at the same rate as our own compound fees.

For summer sailors there is ample space at the club once the cruisers have left the compound, but the summer storage is only available during the summer compound season which runs from April to November.

Southampton Sailing Club has undertaken a programme to attain RYA Training Centre Status and will soon be running sailing courses. Further details will be available in the near future so please check the website for updates. From my perspective, as Rear Commodore Dinghies, this is a most significant step towards a successful future.
