Southampton Water Sailing Association’s Evening Series 30th May 2008
Despite a pre-race calm worthy of the Ancient Mariner, last Friday’s third race in the Southampton Water Sailing Association’s evening series got off to a timely start with a Force 2 South Westerly breeze arriving right on cue. Conditions ultimately proved idyllic with a steady, consistent breeze and warm sunshine.

Gaining a good start and with competent boat handling throughout, Graham Harrison’s Trapper 500 Auriole achieved line honours and 2nd place overall. Chris Jackman’s Westerly Jouster Solace, the smallest and lightest in the race, revelled in the conditions and sailed faultlessly to 1st place overall.
Undoubtedly David Hollingdale’s heavier displacement Roberts 34 Patricia Elaine II was less suited to the light airs. Nevertheless, her crew produced some good spinnaker work, ultimately securing third place. All boats finished within the one and a half hour time limit.
