Southampton Water Sailing Association’s Evening Series 30th April 2008
Southampton Water Sailing Association’s first ever evening series got underway on April 30th. Boats representing Warsash, Fawley, Southampton and RAF yacht clubs attended and the first race proved evocative of the founding principle of the SWSA - i.e. friendly inter club competition within Southampton Water. With a Westerly force 5 and frequent rain squalls, the conditions proved testing but all boats completed the course within the one and a half hour time limit.

The Beneteau 305 Symphony, co-owned by Alex Bell and Paul Bush got off to a storming start with Starboard tack advantage over the remaining fleet. Symphony retained the lead throughout the race gaining both line honours and first place on handicap. Graham Harrison, returning to SWSA racing after several seasons absence finshed a creditable 2nd overall in his Trapper 500 Auriole.
Chris Jackman in Solace, a Westerly Jouster and the smallest boat in the fleet took the 3rd podium position, hence demonstrating that for SWSA racing, “size does not matter”.

The SWSA evening Series continues in a fortnight’s time on Wednesday 14th May. For more information, please see www.swsa.org.uk
There may have been some confusion at the start, but that was soon overturned
