One of the most requested items in our recent membership consultation was
the introduction of supported sailing days where members know there will be a safety boat on the water on a given date.
These days will allow new members to get out on the water, either in their own or one of the club boats, and they will allow more experienced members to try things they would not necessarily do without the safety boat being there.
To ensure you get plenty of chances to get out on the water during 2012 these days will be run throughout the spring and summer on race days when the safety boat is already on the water. From May to July this will be for up to three hours after the last race of the day; from August to September this will be for up to two hours before the first race of the day.
The safety boat will be on the water for three hours during the races as well of course and although it will be chasing after the boats taking part in the race during this time it will be able to come to your rescue if you get into trouble. Who knows, you may even want to take part in some of the races: they are not nearly as scary as you think and you learn a lot by trying to get the most out of your boat for a couple of hours.
