Introduction

altSouthampton Sailing Club (SSC) offers dinghy sailors the chance to enjoy their sport in a safe and friendly atmosphere. The emphasis is on enjoying our time on the water rather than having the latest boats and carbon fibre components.

Dinghies can be launched from the slip alongside the club from three hours before to three hours after high tide, although on some neaps the tide hardly leaves the slip at all. The predominant winds are onshore and the waters close to the club are clear of larger traffic.

We welcome experienced sailors and novices; young or not so young. If you have never sailed before then why not attend one of our Open Days, book one of our RYA approved courses or contact us for a Trial Session? We have a mentor programme in place to help you find your way around the club, determine the best type of boat and activity for your requirements and ensure you make the most of your time on the water.
Club dinghies are available for hire by members and bookings can be made by contacting us on the email address below. The fees charged are small and simply help to maintain the fleet.

Club activities are a healthy mixture of racing, rallies and social and supported sailing.
  • Our racing schedule consists of four weekend series through the year, an evening series, two inter-club series organised through the SWSA and our Peter Meredith Regatta in October.
  • Rallies take us a lot further afield than most of us would ever go on our own including a trip to the Isle of Wight with the Cruiser section.
  • Supported sailing gives you the security of having the safety boat on the water so new members can have a safe time on the water and experienced members can try some of those daring tricks they have spotted on youtube.
  • For social sailing we have a crewing list if you are looking for someone to sail with and a members forum to get in touch with other members. If you let us know if you are planning to go for a sail on a specific day we will post it to the club calendar to tempt other members out on the water.
  • During 2012 we will also be developing our youth section.
