| Second Shakedown Cruise - Folley Inn 19th/20th April 2008 | |
|
The destination was tentatively Island Harbour, but some members could not bring themselves to sail on past the pub, so we all ended up at The Folly Inn. The troop consisted of just three boats; Malcolm, Vaughan & Mary on Hawkwind, Chris & Caroline on Solace, and Geoff, Brian & Martin on Buccaneer. Unable to stay overnight, our most senior officers left after lunch - leaving us to the mercy of the bar. |
Our Commodore, Membership Sec and Vice Commodore sail away |
| We managed to negotiate rafting up on the main walk ashore pontoon which gave us electricity for the night. Although some nameless person on a boat called Solace, did plunge us all into darkness twice during the night due to a dodgy lead! |
| Sunday morning turned out to be lovely sunshine and not at all cold. The chosen cure for an evening in the pub was fried bacon, toast and Martins free range eggs. Well not Martin's eggs obviously, his chicken's eggs. Breakfast was served up on Geoff's new project cockpit table which attaches to the tiller and tested very well. Watch the shops for patented versions soon! | ![]() Keep that down in a moderate sea. |
| We left in glorious sunshine with Buccaneer just behind Solace. Buccaneer, with sails hoisted and engine running (in neutral - just in case) soon passed the sailing (with no engine) Solace. The claim about Buccaneers engine being in neutral may not have been believed by the Solace crew - or even the Buccaneer crew come to that. |
| Buccaneer faced some long tacks to get back to Portsmouth in the Easterly F4, but what a good sail! | ![]() Never mind the heel angle, where's the sun gone?. |
